About Jack
Jack Duran is Placer County's District 1 Supervisor and an accomplished business attorney who has lived and served in our community for over 25 years.
The proud son of both an Air Force veteran and longtime officer with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Jack’s story is steeped in the importance of education as the gateway to opportunity, and the values of hard work, family and community service.
A self made man, Duran moved to Roseville at age 18, attending Sierra College and working as a truck driver for UPS. After putting himself through CSU Sacramento and the McGeorge School of Law, where he graduated with honors, he served as Deputy Attorney General at the California Department of Justice before transitioning into private practice. Jack and his wife Kim have been married for 15 years and live in Roseville with their two sons—Jared and Jakob.
Jack Duran has made leadership by example the hallmark of his decades of service to the people of Placer County. From ensuring public input on local development projects, to oversight of taxpayer approved school bond funds, mentoring area youth and working with local law enforcement to reduce juvenile delinquency, Duran has been praised as one of Placer County’s most trusted voices on fiscal responsibility, education, public safety and for working families. Just a few of his current and past community posts include:
- Placer Peer Court—Judge/Mentoring Attorney

- Roseville Coalition of Neighborhood Associations
- Roseville City School District, Measure H Oversight Committee
- Roseville Joint High School District-Measure J Community Oversight Committee
- Roseville Library Foundation Board of Directors
- Cezar Chavez Youth Leadership Conference
- President, Woodcreek Jr. Timberwolves Football & Cheer Program
- Roseville and Rocklin Chamber of Commerce
- Leadership Roseville
In 2006, Duran was elected to the Roseville Joint Union High School Board of Trustees. Appointed President of the Board by his peers in 2009, Duran successfully brought teachers, classified employees, parents, students and administrators together to close a $5.5 million funding gap (the district’s worst financial crisis since the Great Depression). Through transparent budgeting, a shared commitment to protect classrooms and identify operational efficiencies, the effort ultimately helped the District save more than 70 jobs, while establishing a healthy rainy day reserve that will help prevent future shortfalls from undermining educational quality in our community.
In June of 2010, Duran was elected to the Placer County Board of Supervisors. He represents the first district, which includes much of the City of Roseville as well as unincorporated areas west of Roseville. Duran began his term in January of 2011.
In his capacity as a Supervisor, Duran also serves on a number of Boards and Commissions dealing with oversight of policy, community programs and government services:
- City-County Bordering Committee
- Audit Committee
- Criminal Justice Policy Committee
- Flood Control and Water Conservation District Board of Directors
- Greenprint Steering Committee
- National Association of Counties
- Placer Parkway Policy Advisory Committee
- South Placer Waste Water Authority
- Veterans Memorial Hall Board
